Welcome to Cancer Chat!
Cancer Chat is a discussion forum run by Cancer Research UK. It is your space to talk to others affected by cancer, share experiences and find information.
We want Cancer Chat to be a secure and helpful environment for all of the community. So please follow these House Rules whenever posting on Cancer Chat or contacting Cancer Chat members to help ensure that it continues to be a welcoming place. If you are ever worried about posts on Cancer Chat please report them or let us know by using the "contact us" button on the right hand side of every page.
Please remember that by using this forum you are agreeing to follow our terms and conditions and these House Rules.
Respect each other
Please be respectful of and considerate to other users when using Cancer Chat. We understand that cancer is an emotional subject and that you may have strong feelings about issues discussed on the site, but we do not tolerate insults or personal attacks on other users.
Please remember that opinions, views and beliefs often differ; if you disagree with someone, please express yourself respectfully.
Think before you post
Please remember that Cancer Chat is a public forum. It is not just registered users who can read your posts. It is easy to be misunderstood, so we ask you to 'think before you post' as your discussion may be online for a long time.
Sharing Information
Cancer Chat is here for you to share information and experiences with other users. At Cancer Research UK we are committed to providing quality, up-to-date information about cancer. Please try and make sure that any information that you share on the forum is accurate and that you check your facts before you post. Inaccurate information is not helpful and may prove harmful to those who trust it.
Keeping it 'on topic'
Cancer Chat is a forum for people affected by or worried about cancer. We ask that conversations are kept 'on topic' and it is useful to check that you have posted in the right 'topic area'. Posts that are completely unrelated to a discussion may be removed.
As Cancer Chat is a place for people affected by cancer to share their personal information and experiences, we do not encourage people to post surveys or questionnaires on the forum.
No swearing or abusive language
Please do not use language that other users may find offensive. This includes swear words and material that could be considered obscene, abusive, vulgar, hateful, threatening or defamatory. We also ask that you do not discriminate against other people. This includes discrimination on the grounds of a user's race, sex, age, religion, ethnic origin or any other basis.
Threatening other users or threats of physical violence are also unacceptable on Cancer Chat.
Advertising or promoting
We ask people not to advertise, promote or try to sell anything on Cancer Chat. We will remove from the forum any posts that we consider to be advertisements and do not accept any form of commercial solicitation.
Personal information - Be safe
Please look after yourself when using Cancer Chat and do not share any of your personal details on the forum, including personal phone numbers, or your home address. Remember that anyone can read the site and details may stay online for a long time. Don't put yourself at risk of intrusive contact from unwanted parties.
Why we moderate
Our moderators are here to help keep the forum a safe place. We want Cancer Chat to be a secure and helpful environment for all of the community. We moderate the forum so that we can try to stop any inappropriate content and behaviour remaining on the site. This sometimes means that we remove posts or information from Cancer Chat.
When you post on the forum, it will appear straight away as we do not monitor posts before they are published. This means that sometimes you may spot something inappropriate before we do. To report any content that you think is unsuitable for Cancer Chat, use the 'report the message' button.
We want to let you know that we don't ban people or remove any content without cause, and any actions are taken to protect the Cancer Chat community.
