Re: Have date to start chemo

Hi Coop,

Had my first chemo on Fri, felt quite rough Sat and Sun- the anit sicknes pills are good. Started to feel a bit better mon and today although really really tired. The taste in my mouth is yucky and have found hard boiled fruit sweets help and sucking ice cubes. I'm having 6 cycles of FEC do you know what you're having? If you want to know anything else I'm here.

We can get through this and by the summer it will all be over,

love Kathy

Hi,

Just read this thread and fresh pineapple helps clean the mouth, it worked for me when I had chemo, a tip from my Macmillan nurse.

Re: Have date to start chemo

Hi Coop,

The treatment didn't take as long as I expected, I arrived at 10 and was finished by 12.30. And because this was my first time the nurse went through loads of stuff first so next time will be quicker still. It depends on how many syringes of stuff they have to inject into the drip. once the drip was in, there is no pain, some drugs make you feel a bit peculiar as they go in, only one of mine did this and i just felt a bit dizzy so the nurse slowed it down and it was fine.

I felt a bit wobbly that night and tired, although i didn't sleep great, but i think that was more mind than physical problems. The next couple of days weren't great but not terrible. felt nauseous but not been sick and just really rundown. My face was a bit pink! By Monday night I started to feel a bit better and since then every day has got better, even to the point of me feeling well enough to tidy my 4 year olds bedroom, ! today.

I know every one reacts differently and you are having different drugs to me, and I was most scared of feeling terrible all the time, and I don't so far so that is positive and I think that is the same for most people.

Am thinking of you

Re: Have date to start chemo

Hi Helen,

Good to hear from you, glad you feeling bit better. It is true about the little things, I put my wellies on and splashed in puddles with my youngest at the weekend, it was great. How's your hair? I've got a fitting for a wig on thurs, not sure what I'm going to go for, a good friend is coming with me and she will tell me exactly what she thinks. Think my husband would try not to hurt my feelings. Will you get one? I'm thinking as it's free I'll have it , just hope its not too mop like. I keep tugging at mine and so far it's still intact. How old is your daughter? I just keep saying that I'm doing this for my kids, and it does help. I'm actually feeling really well at the mo, got a bit tired traipsing round the shops today, but otherwise no probs. Definately feel I can do this. Just hope next time is the same.

talk soon, love Kathy x

Re: Have date to start chemo
Hi there

This is the first message I have posted. Diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer with vascular invasion but not spresd to lymph nodes at the beginning ogf the year. Had lumpectomy 4 weeks ago and first of my 6 FEC chemo sessions is tomorrow morning (24th Feb) at home which is great (with radiotherapy to follow).

It is comforting to read other people's stories and experiences, makes me realise that lots of us are going through this at the same time.

Am keeping an open mind re side effects at the moment. Have experienced illness before (v bad hangovers) so hoping will be able to cope with that bit and been v tired before with 2 young boys (now 12 and 10). But, never lost my hair! Am currently armed with 2 wigs, hats and an eyebrow pencil! Am all set for the roller coaster ride. Wish me luck.

PS. My husband thought we would save lots of money on the hairdressing bills but the headwear bills have just taken over big time!
