Re: breast cancer

Hi there!!! The radiotherapy isnt bad at all. Do makesure you use the creams they give you they do help. I had 6 weeks of it and by the end my skin was red and sore. I have to say that the nurses there do keep an eye on you and if they notice anything then they will give you lots of lotions and potions to sort you out. The actual treatment doesnt take long but there were some days when i had a long long wait Good luck and keep in touch.

Good luck take care love Jo xxxx

Re: breast cancer

Hi there

I had radiotherapy after my mastectomy in 2008. I didn't find it bad at all but I would emphasise the advice to keep using the creams throughout and for sometime after your treatment. Although i have always had sensitive skin, I got right to the end without any problems but just after my last treatments my skin broke out and It took a couple of weeks to get that under control as the areas affected were dificult to dress and my skin then reacted to the micropore fastening the dressings. However, it was no big deal and healed quickliy with no scars or further problems. So look after your skin. good luck.

Re: breast cancer
I have had radiation several times during my 13 year experience with breast cancer. After my last bout in Dec. 2009 I commented on my blog post
My blog is cancer curmudgeon or http://cancercurmudgeon.com/ I had an MRI scan a few days ago. Very similiar but longer the mri case. Plug into outer space.

I’m remembering the radiation I had a few months ago with nostalgia. Radiation is an authentic Star Wars experience. At the Harley St. Clinic, one goes down to the bowels of the 18th Century building and enters the world of the an early Star Wars adventure. Everything about it seems dated. A strange machine greets you, with intergalactic technicians. You go behind a screen and feel as if you should be changing into a space suit to protect you from the rays of the beast. You are placed on the machine (space ship) very carefully, measurements are taken and you are moved into position so that you can enter the outer space.

The assistants run for their life for protection in to the control room and you feel you should be running with them. Not to be, you have your moral fiber gown on and you need to stick with the mission. You then go into the capsule where you are transported back in time. Strange sounds are heard as you are catapulted in to the universe. It sounds like a John Cage symphony. Oh well it’s all over in 15 minutes and in 30 minute your outside and its 2009. Well, that’s the way it is with these transendental experiences. They don’t last too long and you don’t burn up in space. Whew made another intergalactic trip. Most people just don’t see it this way.
