hello,

my father is due to start chemo this tuesday coming...can you recommend what foods he may benefit eating whilst this first treatment is happening? his appetite has been suffering over the past few months , he is currently taking warfrin and we think this could be a reason and also the fact he's scared out of his mind as we all are.

thanks

Re: foods for chemo.

I am on chemo and keep asking my nurses this same question. All they answer is to eat a balanced diet. Because the chemo can alter your taste (temporarily) I have found that eat "what I fancy" during this time. I have also heard from another lady on chemo that her doctor told her to eat - "Calories and protein". I try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables with meals, but protein is good advice because protein repairs tissue and promotes muscle growth. If his appetite is suffering - just give him whatever he fancies. Trick is to keep his strength up while he is on treatment so heis better able to cope with it.

Hope things go OK for him, Tina

Hi I was on chemo last year & about to have another session, make sure he has a light breakfast about an hour before, then eat what he fancies any food is better than nothing try scrambled egg, rice pudding & homemade chicken soup is great full of goodness & i always make a big batch & freeze it. x
