Ovarian Cancer

21-Nov-2008 01:47

I am a Vietnamese student who is studying my first year at a university in the U.K. I have an aunt who has had Ovarian cancer for nearly 3 years. She was given the first chemotherapy 2 years ago after having her whole ovaries removed. However, she experienced a recurrence of tumour as her cancer’s cells started to reappear about 6,7 months ago leading her to undergo the second chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this time the treatment appeared to have discouraging results.

At the moment, my aunt is residing in Vietnam when she heard about a vaccine designed to prevent ovarian cancer from recurring has shown promise in early-stage clinical trials. Therefore I would like to ask, on behalf of my aunt, if it is possible for her to approach this vaccine. And in the case of not being able to do that, may I ask if she can seek for an intensive treatment and advices from a hospital in the U.K, as she is not having the best and most effective medical care at home.

I would really appreciate any helps and information.

Re: Ovarian Cancer
I read about a new drug called Olaparib which is said to target ovarian, breast and prostate cancers in Phase I clinical trial conducted at Royal Marsden Hospital with fair success. An article on this drug appears in SCEARCH, September '09 issue published by ICR,UK. Website is www.icr.ac.uk. Good luck.
