My daughter is 14 and I realised that I don't know if she should start examining herself now or can she wait until she's older. She started her period when she was 11 so has been developing for a few years now. She is very open to talking about breast examination as her aunt died of breast cancer.

Can anyone advise me or suggest anything online that I can read?

Re: Breast lump awareness for teenagers
Hi Cats,

Not being too familiar with this topic I found this site which may be helpful to you - www.kidshealth.org/parent/question/general/breast_exams.html this will take you right to the topic you need, it seems to be informative. There is an underscore _ between breast and exams. Please let us know how useful it is.

Best wishes, Rodis.

Re: Breast lump awareness for teenagers
Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting on Cancer Chat.

Our information nurses would like to let you know that:

"Breast cancer in teenagers is extremely rare. Also, because of research, the advice about routine breast self examination has changed. Women are now advised to be breast aware. We have some information explaining what breast awareness means on the CancerHelp UK website:

http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=3283

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the nurse team directly on freephone 0808 800 4040."

Thanks again for posting.

Best wishes,

Anne
