I would just like to ask everyone to keep on using this site. I know there has been some upsetting things happening on here of which I do not want to be involved in but I do feel that no one person is this site. I would also ask those that have fallen foul of the moderators to keep using and posting as people out there really do need the help they get on here.

We are all adults and it would be a shame for this site to close down because of bitterness or even loyalty to other people. This site is one of the easiest to access and use. Moderators have a job to do whether we like it or not. We all have had our wrists slapped from time to time but we are here of our own free willl and surely we can rise above the odd reprimand.

Thank you for ,listening.

Bubbles.

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.

I agree that we should keep on posting, but I have never read anything from Goldenbird that I thought was worthy of her being thrown off the site. Maybe the moderators could give us some information about the reason for their decision? What did she post that was so controversial?

I realise Cancer Research UK is part of the cancer establishment and they are very dismissive and contemptuous of alternative approaches. However I am an adult with a functioning brain, and expect to be given the right to make up my own mind about the usefulness of any information. I don't expect information to be censored by this site, or are we now part of a dictatorship. I am taking part in the Race For Life tomorrow and am a regular contributor to Cancer Research UK. I'm beginning to think I am misguided in giving this organisation my support.

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.

Who or what are the Moderators are they elected, appointed or employees if the latter I would like to know who is in charge of them. If elected or appointed by whom certainly not the members.

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.
Hi to you both. Moderators
are in place predominantly to ensure that people do not advertise, swear and generally
abuse a website. They also use certain
software that is programmed to pick up words such as c*ck pr*ck sh*t etc. Unfortunately several of these words can be
used in a perfectly reasonable context e.g.: c*ck pheasant, pr*ck in the arm with a needle. So the software is floored. If they bothered to read the text in question
that their software pulled up and read it in context they would have realised
that it was harmless... They also appear
to not like what has been described as people “diagnosing” on the website when
they are not qualified. Goldenbird is a
Dr, Not a GP and whilst does not necessarily know everything as a GP does not
either, she is very Very well qualified to assess symptoms and “surmise” what
they may represent. However having done
this she recommends further consultation be taken from a medical professional.

Bubbles with all due respect you are completely missing the
point. The website is about everyone on
it, Goldenbird does not hold herself in some kind of high regard and it will
not shut down should she leave. The
moderators are totally misguided. Believe
me I know as I am the MD of a company that employees similar software and uses
similar processes. If this was not the
case then “the odd reprimand” would not be and issue.

Take care

Mr
S River

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.

Thanks for the best wishes for the Race, looks like a good morning for it!

I find it hard to believe that they would ban someone because some software showed up some words they didn't like, and they didn't bother to actually read the "offending" piece! Big brother truly is watching us all - spooky. Apologies to Bubbles that this thread has rather gone off the topic that they intended it for. But as you can see we are still posting and the site will not close, but I do wish the moderators would explain themselves - though this probably comes under privacy.

While I am on here and have mentioned my participation in Race For Life can I add my page link if anyone would like to give a pound or two? Or is that advertising? I had better go and have a shower and get my wings on! Just hope it isn't too windy along Bournemouth seafront this morning or with the wings I may end up on the Isle of Wight!

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.

I don't choos to use a site that bullies.

This isn't a question of sensible moderating, it is censorship.

If the site is in great need of people to post regularly (which it is, as there isn't much) then it needs to think about why it is so censorious.

Good luck to you Bubbles, but this is not how I would choose to be treated.

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.
Hi everyone,

We wouldn't want to compromise anyone's privacy by going into details about why someone's Cancer Chat account has been closed. However, we would like you to know that this isn't a decision that we would ever take without a lot of careful thought.

Cancer Chat does have an automatic swearword filter and we understand that some innocently meant words are occasionally deleted by the system. We would never warn or ban a member based on an innocent mistake by our system.

Unlike many other forums, Cancer Chat is moderated and we try to make this clear to all members and users. When we set up the site a year ago we decided that it was important for us to be different to other forums in this respect, many of which are unmoderated. So, our team of moderators, supported by our specialist cancer nurses, moderate to try and stop any inappropriate content and behaviour remaining on the site. We expect our moderators to treat all our members with respect and similarly for users to respect them as they would any other member.

Since we started a year ago the moderation team (Kate, Renata, Jane, Sophie and Anne) have only very rarely taken any content off the site or closed members' accounts, and would only do so when dangerous content is posted or important terms and conditions broken. Also, if terms and conditions are repeatedly broken we do have a responsibility to act. We will also moderate in response to justifiable complaints by other Cancer Chat members.

We want to let you know that in effect we seldom remove any content or ban users, would never do this without cause , and that moderation decisions are not taken lightly.

Best wishes,

Anne

Re: Please keep on posting everyone.

Dear Bubbles,

This is the first time I have contacted the site re. ?? soft tissue sarcoma. I think I might have put this on the incorrect listing - how do I add it to Symptoms and diagnosis please. Thank you, Samaritans
