hi,

my sister got diagnosed with breast cancer back in july, she took the desicion to have her breast removed, and the surgeon removed 5 of her lymph glands, (3 of which were found to be cancerous) but she came through the op ok, and we thought all was well, but a few weeks later she found a lump on her neck, which they removed, but thankfully it wasnt cancerous, the doctors sent her for a body scan.

The doctor had re-assured my sister that he could make her well again, which was a big worry for her as she has 2 children, unfortunatley her husband has a very rare illness and lives life day to day, not knowing how his going to be the next morning! but the results showed that she had abnormaties on her spine, she went back to the hospital 2 days later and was told that the breast cancer was secondary, and that unfortunatly there was no more they could do for her, of course this shattered her, her husband and the whole family, except the children who dont know yet, theyve been through enough with their father being ill, and we are trying to spare them any un necessary worry and pain, until they have to be told.

the doctors have given my sister 2-5 years, she hasnt had any chemo or radiotheropy, which from reading some posts on the internet is a good thing, is this true? im at a loss and am trying to find out all i can for her, as she isnt ready to read anything just yet, i know its a lot to ask, because many of you are on here for the same reason as me, but if anyone has any thing helpfull to suggest on dietry or treatment, it would all be greatly recieved .

many thanks

paul

Re: my sister has been diagnosed with cancer
I do feel sorry for you to face this you have to be strong, I lost my mother through Cancer, mysel I have 3 children and they almost lost me through Breast Cancer grade 3. All you can do for her is to always be there when needed, I went through Chemo and The rad treatment and still suffer it's draining effects to my body.

You are truly blessed to have the strength to carry on, I do know what you mean all the hospital visits the tests they all do take their toil I had grade 3 breast Cancer, had the test the day before Christmas and went away on holiday thinking I was a dead girl walking and this would be my last holiday. That was 2 years ago now. I read your stories thank you for sharing, it gives hope to all, thought I had it bad but you made me see we are not alone. I had grade 3 breast cancer went through the Chemo badly collapsing twice then the op and rad. The treatments nearly killed me and I am still in pain all the time two years down the line. But in all the thick of it I visited a web site called *** read their stories and bought a CD which helped me every day that I listened to it. From time to time I still take it out when I feel low and it helps. I done the walk for life and will be doing it again this year. My way of saying thank you for still being here

Thanks you for sharing your story visit the web site see my story there we have to all do what we can to be rid of this curse called Cancer which brings only saddness and pain to all it touches

Jenny

Good luck with your continued story

Re: my sister has been diagnosed with cancer

Hi Paul,

Thank you so much Paul I am glad to help in my small way

Your sister is lucky to have a great friend like you, I had to fight it all alone until I went to the web site I told you about, now I feel they are my friends they help me in other ways too. I will pray for your strength to support your sister. I watched my mum in her last moments and prayed her passing would be quick so she wouldn't be in pain anymore. Today I feel that it was one of the most unselfish acts to do as I wanted her with me forever.

On a brighter note new treatments are coming up all the time who knows what tomorrow will bring. I wish you both good luck for the future and will keep my fingers crossed for you both. I will be walking the walk for life again this year to raise money for cancer to fund those new cures much needed, I think if everyone could find a small way to help its a worthwhile gift to give. Look out for me walking.

Regards

Jen

Hi Paul,

I will keep my figer crossed and pray for your sister, you say it's only a little guesture but if everyone did just that we would have all the funding we need to be rid of this curse. Don't worry about the spelling it's not my best gift either. I think it's quite a great thing you are doing it takes a strong person to watch someone they love and support them without falling apart. i wish I had, had someone like that routing for me.

Good for you Paul both of you keep up the fight be strong think of you.

Regards

Jenny

Re: my sister has been diagnosed with cancer

Hi Paul,

Me too stopped going to church the day my mum died, but could not stop prayer at times of need as I don't have any family to speak of.

It's so nice to know there are nice guys out there so you see for my few words of comfort to you at your time of need you have refreshed my faith in mankind.

It has touched my heart to feel the love you have for your sister she really is the lucky one to have you by her side at her hour of need. I will share my prayers with you and wish for the magic you need for your sister to be whole again. Did you go to the web site i told you about it does help on lots of stuff.

Whats your sisters name, you never said. Hope the news on Wednesday is all good you must let me know how she does.

I will be thinking of you both.

Regards

Jenny

Re: my sister has been diagnosed with cancer
Can I suggest that your sister, or yourself if she can't do this at the moment, reads Jane Plant's "Your Life in Your Hands". It gave me hope when I found the book in the local library about 18 months ago. Your sister should give up dairy NOW and red meat. Dairy is full of hormones and Growth Factors which drive cancer. Read the book by a Professor of Earth Sciences who has had 4 or 5 recurrances of breast cancer and you won't touch the stuff again.

Two years ago I had a total hip replacement because a 4" x 2" tumour had destroyed my right hip. When I had an x-ray of my left knee the following July the tumour above that knee had grown. I changed my diet in line with Jane Plant's programme and when I had repeat scans a year ago that tumour could no longer be seen. I am awaiting results of another set of bone and CT scans to see how I am doing and I fluctuate between confidence and dread at the results. However I have had 18 months of good quality life, still work full time and am enjoying life - this is not something that I was led to believe was possible by the oncologists who said they would only give me palliative treatment. I have only been on hormone treatment and have not had chemo since being diagnosed with secondaries, and the only rads have been to the femur after the hip surgery.

You might also want to look at *** which has loads of info about diet and supplements, and how to help yourself. All of this is references from scientific sources. Sadly oncologists, who rightly don't want to give a false sense of hope, actually end up giving us a false sense of hopelessness. Your sister must find her own path on this journey. Also look at www.pennybrohncancercare.org as another insiprational site. Click on the starter pack and watch the video on there; and below is a really good guided imagery download using colour to aid relaxation. Penny Brohn died of breast cancer - 20 years after being told she had months to live.

If you would like any more info do contact me. If your sister is ready I would be happy to "talk" to her.

Re: my sister has been diagnosed with cancer

Hi Paul,

Thank you because believe me not everyone is as sweet and loving as you, I have two older brothers not that you would know it as I only hear from them when they need something so in that way I have no choice but to be strong. I not saying I think there is a magic cure out there but as a patient you have to draw on unlimited strength of mind. That site is where I got the strength to carry on and the comfort of sleep made me stronger and the belief that I could beat this curse call cancer.

I am praying for Kim too and you so you wont lose the will to go on, please let me know how she gets on with her tests there still are people out there that do care enough to stop and aid an injured traveller I wish you both well
