hi i got the all clear about 1 month ago but i am due to start radio treatment on the 8th of feb, hodgkins lymphoma i had. when i read the side effects of the radio they seem pretty tough the main thing i am woried about is my mouth as i have to have the treatment on my neck. i am told my siliva gland will dry up and not come back which will make food hard to swollow. have also heard some people have to be fed through a tube if it gets bad. anyone been through this who could tell me their experance. i rekon i will be ok as only have a 30 count of radio for 3 weeks. my chemo lasted 3 months and i delt with that not too bad. roll on march when hopefully i will feel good again

Re: radiotreatment
Hi Monkster

First of all great news that you have the all clear. I didn't have the same cancer as you but I had radiotherapy to the neck area for laryngeal cancer 2 and a half years ago. I had 38 treatments in all which they told me was the maximum dose.

My saliva went completey but it has come back to a certain extent although not the same as before. I can eat most foods now although I can't manage ''dry' food and need to have some kind of sauce or gravy with my meals but I am managing food that I couldn't a year ago.

I was tube fed via my nose for 2 weeks as I couldn't swallow at all but I dug my heels in and refused a PEG (tube inserted directly through the stomach). At first I could only manage soup or pureed food but only lost a stone in weight (which has gradually crept back on).

I hope this has helped a bit and wish you good luck with your treatment. It's not pleasant but a small price to pay to be cured

Best wishes
